It's a PC BRAND 286/20MHz system with a Toshiba 24ms 110-meg RLL hard drive. The entire 110-meg is set up as drive C (one partition). The system has operated flawlessly since I bought it, and the HD currently has over 80-meg of programs and data. I use Norton's Speed Disk 4.5 all of the time on my system and it works absolutely flawlessly! And very fast. Especially considering the over 80 meg of programs and data. > Now I am left with the horrid prospect of backing everything up to floppies > and reformatting the drive with smaller partitions that CAN be optimized.... > either that, or wait patiently for someone to re-write their inadequate > utility.... Speed Disk makes short work (so to speak) of my disk and keeps it fully optimized (I run it whenever I make significant changes to the directory and file structure (deleting or adding applications, directories, and so forth). The really amazing part is that I've had my system for over nine months, now, and still don't have a backup of it. Pretty dumb, I know. I've got a internal tape drive mounted but "haven't gotten around to" buying the tape cartridges and doing the backup. I can't believe that it's SD's fault simply in handling large partitions in MSDOS 4.01, otherwise my 110MB system would screw up. Perhaps it has to do with the SCSI interface? ___________________________________________________________________ _________ / Marcus Clenney ___ ___ /___ ___/ ________ / U. of Central Florida / | / | / / / ______/ / Dept. of Computer Science / /| | / /| | / / / / / Orlando, FL 32816 / / | |/ / | | / / / /_____ / wordproc@ucf-cs.ucf.edu /_/ |___/ |_| /_/ /_______/ / ____________________________________________________________/
