I just viewed a slew of sneek previews and thought I might pass on some opinions on each. "Best Friends"--A Norman Jewison film with Burt Renoylds and Goldie Hawn. A valium film at best. A really poor script with forced acting and trite situations. The story line concerns a couple living together who decide to get married, which ruins their perfect relationship. Worth about $1.50 at the most. "Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean"--A Robert Altman film with Cher and Karen Black. Probably the best film I have seen in the last three months. Based on the play of the same name, CBFDJDJD's (I love oblique intials) story line is about the reunion of the Disciples of James Dean twenty years after their last meeting. Rather than nostalgia, we are treated with some very intense conflicts. Elements of realism, romance, and surrealism blend to form an excellent whole. An excellent movie which is worth $5 - $7.50. "Still of the Night"--with Roy Schieder and Meryl Streep. Tries to be a psychological thriller in the vein of Hitchcock. Falls way short of the mark. It is an enjoyable film, although slow in parts. There are several humorous one liners and a couple of cheap thrills. The story line concerns a psychiatrist who, while trying to find out who murdered one of his clients, has attempts made on his own life. Worth about $2.00-$3.50. "Star Struck"--directed by Gillian Armstrong, starring Jo Anderson and the Wombats. I expected a lot out of any Australian film, and this one delivered. The film is a New Wave Musical about the attempts of a would-be new wave singer and her cousin manager trying to break into stardom. Ther are lots of great laughs and situations. Nothing is forced or contrived and the characters are really magnificent. This film is a must for any New Wavers or anyone who enjoys dancing. Although this film could be difficult to find, it is worth the effort. Worth about $4-$6. I'll try to post more previews as I see them. chas ( ..decvax!cwruecmp!honton)
