[comp.sys.ibm.pc] What kind of drive type

unhd (Steven T Mcclure) (02/02/90)

I know this has been asked before, but I didn't pay attention then because
I was looking for other things (stupid me), but I am looking to purchase a
system, and haven't figured out which drive type would be the fastest. I
am looking for a drive with about 300 Meg capacity, and was wondering which
is faster, SCSI or ESDI (or something else I don't know about)? I also need
a controller that will support at least 2 hard disks and at least 2 floppy
disks, and would like to be able to add another controller if I decide to add
even more hard/floppy disks (wishful thinking, right :-)). Can this be done
eaisly if I buy the right hardware now, looking towards doing this in the
future?

Also, I am looking for a fast modem, but am not sure what type to get. I would
like at least 9,600 baud, but 19,200 (or higher) is what I am really looking
for. Any clues? (I know, I ask a lot of questions, but how else do you get
answers? :-) :-))

Thanks for all replies (well, except the negative ones of course :-) in advance.

I guess it would depend on the specific drive and controller.

Who are you planning to communicate with? If DOS BBS's - go with the USR
HST, if Unix boxes, go with the Telebit Trailblazer. Again, more
information is needed.
