I am requesting help with 2 unrelated questions; while I do read this group, email would be preferable to avoid cluttering with answers to these questions. If there should be any general interest, I will summarize and post. 1) I need to develop a custom communications program to exchange files with a mainframe that insists on using a custom file transfer protocol. I would like to accumulate some recommendations and experiences with commercial / shareware communication libraries. My development environment is DOS and MSC 5.1. 2) A friend of mine is having trouble with his IBM PS/2 Model 50Z. It will not boot off of the hard disk, but I did get it to boot off of A: with DOS 4.x. Poking around with Norton Disk Doctor indicated that it appears to think that its configuration includes: Drives: A = 720K, B = 360K, no other drives While the actual configuration includes: Drives: A = 1.44M, B = 1.44M, hard disk (32 Meg, I think) This being my first experience with PS/2 (I'm still on a 6MHz AT :-(, I am only able to hypothesize that I need to run a SETUP procedure on this machine. Can someone confirm this hypothesis, and if true, tell me how I run it (ie- is the setup procedure in ROM (and what is the "magic" sequence to invoke it), or do I need a separate disk? PS- If I understand correctly, the B: disk was recently installed into this machine by a third person, and the battery may have been replaced as well. Why, I don't know, the person I'm helping knows less about the PS/2's than I do. Thanks in advance- David Wright wright@cs.uiuc.edu wright@cs.uiuc.edu@uiucvmd.bitnet {uunet,pur-ee,convex}!uiucdsc!wright
