mv>I've been using "File Shuttle" from GetC Software for about a year mv>now. It works pretty well. With the package you get a converter so mv>you can connect the Centronics end of a printer cable to the mv>parallel port of a second PC. Transfers are quite fast. It hangs mv>on me occasionally. I might have an old version. I inherited this mv>one from a coworker. mv> mv>I have also heard good things about LapLink. I think it is similar mv>to File Shuttle, but I've never used it. mv> I'm using the free program ZIP (latest release ZIP141) which I downloaded from Canada Remote Systems. I originally grabbed ZIP121 from comp.binaries.ibm.pc on USENET. It manages high-speed transfers nicely between the serial ports on my Toshiba T1000 and IBM PC ... just takes an AT-to-PC null modem cable (9 pin Toshiba to 25 pin IBM PC). The packages which use the parallel ports are much faster. It's critical NOT to accidentally connect a serial port (+12v / - 12v) to the parallel port (0v +5v). I know of someone who munged the parallel port by doing this (IBM PC's have DB25 connectors for both serial and parallel ports - one male, one female. If one buys the wrong cable and / or uses a gender bender incorrectly .....). btw The Tandy 100 has built-in ASCII file upload software. I've also seen xmodem support software on at least one BBS. mark.freedman@canremote.uucp --- ~ DeLuxe 1.11a20 #4219
