[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Keyboard buffer expander that works?

mark@intek01.UUCP (Mark McWiggins) (01/24/90)

I've been banging up against the typeahead limit on my DOS machine
even more than usual lately. I've seen various keyboard-buffer-expanders
around, but the only ones I've tried didn't work on my clone.

Can you point me to one that actually is generic enough to work reliably
on most clones? Thanks in advance.

PC Magazine had a visible type-ahead keyboard buffer, some years back. It
was called something on the order of VISIKEY, or VISI-something. It worded
on my xt-clone, but I didn't like the screen display of keystrokes waiting
to be fed into the 80 character buffer. I am pretty sure the buffer could
be expanded, but not sure if the screen display could be turned off. Back
then, I was new to pc's and I tried every program around, just to try it,
not because I needed it or could use it. Turns out, I don't NEED a key-
board buffer... Log onto Compuserve, type GP PC Magnet at the "!" prompt

I once wrote a program to solve this problem - I had seen two programs that
did not work - one assumed a standard US keyboard, but the other one displayed
the characters on the screen.

If there is any interest I'll try to find the program - a (very) small
TSR utility.
