I finally got my Conner hard drive and Chicony controller and am INCREDIBLY pleased!- Thanks for all the responses under the various notesstrings! (BTW, the Conner totally blows me away- 3.5 inches by half height by about 5 inches and they store all the way up to 300Megs! (mine is 104 Meg and blows me away!) and very quick). Anyway, I brought up BellTech unix on my Vectra 386 (QS/16) with just the Chicony SCSI controller and Conner drive and my STB ][ VGA card and have run into a problem that is apparently due to the STB card. After printing very rapidly (via an 'ls -l /bin' or the 'setup' program screen io) the STB stops printing the characters, but the cursor still moves about as if it's printing the characters in the background color. Using an ancient mono card gets rid of the problem. I've tried using the system's 'setup' program to tell BIOS that it's a different kind of card and, when set to VGA BellTech sends the monitor out of sync on bootup, and, when set to monochrome or 80 char text mode it exhibits the symptoms above (screen io stops after about a minute). So the question is: Has anyone used STB video controllers under any version of Unix (BellTech hopefully)?? are there any special drivers I need to bind into the kernel or setups on the card? thanks in advance! kevbop ps: my Image package is now available via anon ftp from udel.edu (128.175.1.3).

sounds like I needed to clarify things a bit- by printing chars I meant to the screen- my autoVGA doesn't have a printer port. I've since talked to STB techie support and they've agreed to send me a card BIOS/ROM upgrade from 2.17 to 2.20, which they believe will fix the problem. Will tell y'all how it works out... -kevin
