Please give me any dBFast was bought out about a year ago by a company called Bumblebee Software, which improved the original program considerably, and also developed a couple of completely new versions. All dBFast products are dBase III+ compilers which depend on a runtime library to keep the compiled files small and the compilation times extremely fast. Many other dBase compilers actually link in all of the code for executing the dBase instructions, which make them slow, and result in 100K+ executable files. The original version produces EXE files which of course execute like any other DOS program. The new versions are source compatible Windows and MAC-based versions; these compile to pseudo-code which is interpreted by the runtime module. They advertise that any application written for one will compile and run on the other. Of course, these versions contain a multitude of extended fucntions and commands to support custom menus and dialog boxes, as well as other extended features. These versions also provide "command line" mode and debugging features that the DOS version lacks. I haven't used the Windows version a lot yet, due to lack of time, but what I have seen so far, I have been very impressed with. BTW, their tech support people have informed me that they have planned a major new release in about April or so. Their phone number is 206 462-0130. -- Mike Lawless, NCR E&M Wichita, Box 20 (316) 636-8666 (NCR: 654-8666) 3718 N.
