[comp.sys.ibm.pc] VGA and CGA in the same machine

The dox for my Para;dise VGA Pro and Paradise EGA cards explicitly state
that you cannot have two color cards (or any variety) INSTALLED at the
same time. It doesn't say what will happen, if you do though... I
just bought a $20 mono card at a flea market, and am anxious to try
Codeview with a mono and color screen

I just saw a confusing typo in my earlier message. It should read

There's nothing wrong. The VGA card is doing exactly what it is supposed
to do.

There are only two possible locations for a text mode screen. B000
(mono) and B800 (color). A VGA can co-exist with a CGA or MDA/Hercules.
But to do so, it "loses" all capabilities that would conflict with
the other card.

Put a CGA in the machine and you lose *all* color mode on the VGA card.
Put in a MDA or Hercules, and you lose *all* mono modes.

My advice is pick up a hercules clone or even an old IBM MDA, and a
TTL Mono monitor and run your system that way.
