I am in the market for a VGA monitor and board and in need of some advice. Last week, I went around to the dealers to look at monitors. Every monitor which I looked at had a problem with "dark spots" rippling through a white background. I believe this was due to low persistence phosphor, but I am no expert and could be wrong. I have looked at a Zenith FTM, an IBM 8512, an IBM 8514, a NEC Multisync 2A, and an AT&T (repackaged NEC Multisync II, I think). All of the monitors exhibit this problem to some degree. (All were viewed under fluorescent lights, if that makes a difference.) Is this problem inherent in the VGA design or is there some Monitor/Card combination which gives a rock solid image? (Mac II's with an Apple display don't seem to have this problem although they use the same resolution.) In addition to the above problem, on the Zenith the image jitters around on the screen. Was this a defective monitor or do all FTMs have trouble holding a steady image? Does anyone know of a VGA card and monitor which give a good image on a white background? I can live with standard VGA to get a steady image. (I would like 256 colors at 640x480 as an option, but will sacrifice that for a steady image.) Thanks in advance for any advice.
