[net.movies] A few comments on accuracy of 'The Verdict'

heliotis (01/07/83)

One more note on "The Verdict". I have been told of some professional
flaws, which I myself cannot judge, due to my lack of expertise in these
areas. The first, and more minor, is that the group of lawyers working
for the defense was much too large; in real life, that many lawyers never
get together to discuss one case. The second, and more significant thing,
is that standard procedure for general anasthesia during an operation is
to insert a tube (its name escapes me) into the throat so that anything
that comes up during the operation can quickly be removed. Neglecting this
part of the procedure HAS been the basis of malpractice suits, but this
omission was never mentioned in the movie.

If you feel qualified to disagree, feel free to do so, but don't flame
on me -- I'm only passing on information from sources I respect.
