What is the best way to hide files and directories? I know that you could set the file attribute to 'hide' or 'system'. But this only prevents the files and directories from appearing when you do a 'dir' in DOS. If you know the file or directory names, you could always 'cd' or 'type' or do whatever you want on those directories and files. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks plenty. -Jimmy

You could write a program to place an unprintable characte, such as the delete character, in front of the name. I have seen programs on different bulletin boards to do this. While this will hide the file from a dir a utility such as PCTOOLS will still be able to see the file. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ steve kite - hp-ptp!stevek - stevek@hp-ptp.HP.COM ~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
