[comp.sys.ibm.pc] How to hide directories and files?

pingpong@milton.acs.washington.edu (jimmy) (02/11/90)

What is the best way to hide files and directories?

I know that you could set the file attribute to 'hide' or 'system'. But
this only prevents the files and directories from appearing when you do
a 'dir' in DOS. If you know the file or directory names, you could always
'cd' or 'type' or do whatever you want on those directories and files.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks plenty.

You could write a program to place an unprintable characte,
such as the delete character, in front of the name. I have
seen programs on different bulletin boards to do this. While
this will hide the file from a dir a utility such as PCTOOLS
will still be able to see the file.
