[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Timed program execution on PC's?

tjr@concurrent.co.uk (Tim Rapley) (02/05/90)

Does anyone know of an MS-DOS equivalent of the Unix cron that
would allow me to time the execution of other PC software (e.g.
activate backup utilities etc in the middle of the night when
I'm not around.

I guess this software would be TSR. Please reply through E-mail
if you know of such software.

Thanks in advance.

Better yet: A programmable power switcher that lets you define any
arbitrary power-on schedule (eg. at 3am MWF, turn on for 45 minutes).
Detects the difference between auto power on (for backups, as you
want) and user-at-the-console power-up's. Call Epoch Data
at 619 275-2419 for info. $149.95.

I know nothing specific about this product, I have only seen it
advertised. It is called "GO" and it is $99.95 US. You can get
it from
          SmartSoft, Inc.
          2814 New Spring Road
          Suite 310
          Atlanta, GA 30339

Hope this helps.

You may want to try getting the file: DOAT.ARC from Simtel20 in the
PD1:<MSDOS.SYSUTL> directory. Its small, and the description is:
"Execute command at specified time". I've got it, and I think it
would probably do the job for you. If you can't get into simtel or
one of the mirror sites, email me and I'll email you back a UUEncoded
copy of the archive.
Dave.
