Reading all the talk about 16550AN UARTs in the DSZ and Qmodem documentations, I decided to go out and get one. However, my serial card doesn't use UARTs; it uses a VLSI chip. Questions: 1) What is the difference between a UART and a VLSI chip? (Qmodem tells me I have a 16450...) 2) Is there a pin-compatible replacement for the VLSI that has a FIFO buffer? I use Desqview for everything I do, and when downloading at 19200 baud in the background, I get a ridiculous number of errors. Thanks. -- Jason Merrill jmerrill@jarthur.claremont.edu
