[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Install a new 3.5" drive

kcho@occlusal.rutgers.edu (Kyugon Cho) (02/15/90)

I bought a new 3.5" 1.44M byte drive and installed into B drive
instead of 5" DSDD drive.
The setup program in my system has no means of defining 760K or 1.44M
drive. So I setup it as B drive does not exist.
In "config.sys" I define an external drive with physical address B
and as a 1.44M drive.
I can access the drive as D drive, read and write on it.
But it can't format drive D.

Another one without defining an external drive in "config.sys" was tried.
At this time it also can read and write on B drive.
But when to format B, it formats 1.44M disk as 1.2M byte disk.

What's the problem?
Do I install incorrectly?
Should I have to change the BIOS ROM or the disk drive controller?
Help me.

Try using the correct format commands. (ie the /t, /n options)
see format command.
