[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Which SCSI adapter should I get?

jsilva@cogsci.berkeley.edu (John Silva) (02/15/90)

I'm going to be buying a SCSI hard drive/host adapter combination in the near
future, and am wondering which SCSI host adapter would be best for my
use, which includes MSDOS and SCO 386 UNIX.

Adapters I'm currently considering include Future Domain, Adaptec 1542, and
Western Digital.

Question: Which SCSI host adapter do you recommend, and why?

Thanks in advance...

I would use a Adapetec 154x. Why ? Because its the only SCSI host adapter
thats currently built in the SCO unix kernel. (ie SCO supports it without
having to custom load and relink the kernel for somebody elses device driver).
Also it works with both dos and unix paritions just fine!

I use an 8-bit Future Domain. I got it because it was cheap, and have
been very happy with it. It's FAST (and at only 8 bits! -- the 16 bit
controller must really be something).
