TO: ed.leslie@canremote.uucp This is a quick test to see if I can talk to myself through the usenet gateway. I will be curious to see how long it takes to 'arrive'. Regards....Ed Leslie --- ~ DeLuxe 1.11a20 #1656 ed.leslie@canremote.uucp

Isn't there someone at Canada Remote that can explain the difference between news and mail? The entire world really isn't interested in watching CRSers talk to themselves. It's bad enough watching them talk to each other all the time. -- D'Arcy J.M. Cain (darcy@druid) | Thank goodness we don't get all D'Arcy Cain Consulting | the government we pay for. I like to know if my replies are reaching anyone. How to tell? Send a message to yourself, like you have sent messages to others, and see if it arrives like you would expect it to. Any other reliable way?? Not that I know of!! How do YOU check out the time constant of a network? I sent a message to myself to see how long it takes to arrive. Fundamentally, I agree with your comments about watching CRSers talking to each other, let alone themselves, and prefer the more technical questions, as well as responses -- however, why bother supplying the same if your messages are not getting through -- which is why I sent the message in question. As a matter of interest, it has NOT returned to me -- implying that messages sent to others using the same premise for format would also be unsuccessful. This was my reason for testing! I do not relish thinking about, or keying in answers to netters questions if those answers will just disappear somewhere on the wires. As you may have noticed, D'Arcey, I have left this message addressed to ALL, since I am no longer confident, AS THE RESULT OF TESTING, that sending to USENET GATEWAY with the first line containing: TO: darcy@druid.uucp works. I would appreciate if you could enlighten me with the correct method for posting replies such that they will reach the correct e-mail destination without wasting network bandwidth for universal questions/replies Regards....Ed Leslie --- ~ DeLuxe 1.11a20 #1656 ed.leslie@canremote.uucp

I sent a message to >myself to see how long it takes to arrive. > My point was that you didn't send yourself a message. All you did was post to the entire world (at the expense of the thousands of sites that carry news) a message with a TO: line in the text. There is no way that that will ever get back to you as mail. >Fundamentally, I agree with your comments about watching CRSers talking >to each other, let alone themselves, and prefer the more technical >questions, as well as responses -- however, why bother supplying the same >if your messages are not getting through -- which is why I sent the >message in question. The correct method to send news is as you did it. The only problem is that you thought you were sending mail which as I have explained is incorrect. Check with someone on your site to find out if email is available. You suggest that you don't want to waste bandwidth by posting to the entire net. If you are furthering a discussion that belongs on a particular newsgroup then don't hesitate to post. That is what the net is for. Find out how to email from CRS and send me email. I will email you back the documents that explain the net and how to use it properly. Perhaps you can see that they get passed around CRS. Remember that although you pay CRS to log in, none of that gets passed to the net. Sorry to the rest of the net for continuing the discussion in comp.sys.ibm.pc but I doubt that CRS gets the news discussion groups. -- D'Arcy J.M.
