[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Sorting out the chip set confusion

dhinds@portia.Stanford.EDU (David Hinds) (02/24/90)

Judging from the number of recent postings on this subject, there seems
to be a lot of confusion about the differences between the various chip
sets for 80286, 386SX, and 386DX systems. I am willing to collect info.
on the subject and post a summary. So, if you could mail me the following
information about your systems:

	- Brand name (Dell, Packard Bell, etc.)
	- System board brand, if known (AMI, Micronics, etc.)
	- CPU type, speed, and amount of RAM installed
	- Chip set manufacturer (C&T NEAT, Intel, etc.)
	  - Does the chip set support EMS in hardware? 3.2? 4.0?
	  - Does it support shadow RAM? In what size blocks?
	  - How is the RAM from 640K to 1024K handled?

I will post a summary when I've accumulated a reasonable amount of info.
