I'm trying to install a second disk (a Seagate 251-1, 40 Meg) into an NEC APC IV (which is an 8Mhz AT compatible PC) which already has one 40 Meg hard disk (model APC-H422). I've checked out the cabling and it seems to be OK (i.e., each cable works for the first drive). So far, I have been unable to get the system to recognize the second drive so that I can initialize it. The drive is fine -- I was able initialize it when I removed the first drive and installed the new one in its place. I suspect that some jumpers need to be set diffently on the first drive to allow recognition of the second (the Seagate drive has directions for removing a resister pack on all but the last drive, but there is not such resister pack visible on the NEC drive). The NEC system came pre-configured and ready to run, and without technical specs on separate parts, like the drives. The NEC drive has 3 dip switches, one eight switch pack and two four packs, labeled SW1, SW2, and SW3. Anyone out there know anything about these drives? Thanks.
