[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Virus help

tarr-michael@CS.Yale.EDU (michael tarr) (02/27/90)

We have a virus outbreak here on our PC's and I am trying to find a good
virus detector/eradicator. I have repeatedly tried ftp to simtel without
success. Can anyone suggest a good program (via the net or commercial)
to rid us of the viri and a method other than simtel for getting the
programs onto our pc's -- in addition any compressed file (lzh, arc,
zip, etc...) needs a program to decompress -- where and how do I obtain
such a thing?

Thanks in advance,

Mike Tarr

Call John McAfee's BBS at 408/988-4004.
The board has programs to scan for viri on standalone PCs and networks
and prorgams to remove found viri. The programs are primarily .ZIP
files, but an unZip program is available on the BBS. The programs
are great; McAfee includes validation programs so that the anti-virus
programs can be checked for contamination.

Mike,
If you have access to PC-LINK or can call Pro-Graphics (201)-469-0049, there
is a program called SCANV58.ZIP. It appears to be a good one. (Although I
havn't run across any viruses to vouch for this.) You'll need PKUNZIP or
something compatible to decompress it. There are both avaliable on this board
and on PC-Link. PC-Link will that $3 for it a 1200 baud, $1.5 at 2400.
