I am about to order a 386/33 [DOS 4.?] machine and want to a) make sure I'm not about to make a big mistake on the brand b) make sure that I haven't missed any obvious useful options. If you have experience or technical knowledge of any of the following please send me email and I will summarize to the net. I want to buy an AST Premium 386/33Mhz as follows: 80386 CPU at 33Mhz Zero wait state 1.2 Mb 5.25" floppy 1.44 Mb 3.5" floppy 4Mb RAM 7 expansion slots CUPID Technology 1 Year Warranty ~$7,400 Canadian OPTIONS: either a Fujitsu 150Mb SCSI HD w/controller (25ms) $1,658 CDN -OR- a Micropolis 300 Mb SCSI HD w/controller (15ms) 1/2 full height for $2,645 CDN MAynard 150MB tape backup unit. $1,979 CDN either a 80387/33 -OR- a wietek coprocessor (???) or a ?????? No monitor and no video card are included specifically on my request as I have to go elsewhere for those to get what I need. I am currently looking at two choices in monitors and cards: NEC 5D (1280 x 1024) effective 1024 x 768 non-interlaced 256 colour out of a palette of 16.7 million. NEC Multisync Graphics engine (MGEAT256) MSRP - $8,294. CDN -OR- Taxan Ultra Vision UV1150 (1600 x 1200) multisync non-interlaced 256 colour out of a palette of 16.7 million. Pixelworks UltraClipper (unknown code #). Discounted price - $7,976 CDN. Should I be looking at other makes of 386/33? For example, ALR? Are there any options or things that I should watch out for. I know a bit about the ISA/EISA and want to stay away from MCA. Thanks in advance. My decision is going to be made soon (i.e. by the 9th of March so if you have something to say send it along.)
