[net.movies] Dark Crystal "review"

knudsen (03/22/83)

I know this is late, but as recently as last week some people were
discussing this movie on the net. It is now in the old local theatres here,
($1.50 admission), and this Saturday my wife, kid & I went to see it.
VERY impressed with the beauty of the fantasy worlds, and the tremendous
attention to details -- on the creatures, the land, walls, everything.
my wife was once a biology teacher and was really taken with that garden
spot where "everything was alive", even the rocks and the mud puddle.
I'd go back again just to see the orrery (planetarium?) in Agra's
observatory. And the symbolism at the end was a nice touch too
(no spoilers!).
Granted the plot wasn't very thick, and you must listed closely
to some of the voices. And be warned, some scenes scared hell out of my
8-year old boy. Let's face it,if movie monsters had been half as ugly
and done one-tenth as well when we were kids...
Go and enjoy a work of art, tho not literature.
Laugh at the right places, enjoy the parties, and chuckle at all
the cliches -- really not many.
