I use Microsoft Word for Windows and it's pretty nice in straight VGA 640x480 mode. It's even nicer in 800x600 mode: the 800 pixels across are just enough for the width of 8 1/2 inch paper. I got a Trident VGA board to play around with and found that it has three Windows drivers: 800x600, 1024x768, and 768x1024! This last one really intrigued me. If 800 across is wide enough for 8 1/2 inch paper, then 768x1024 should be ideal for document processing! Unfortunately, the board maker messed up. None of the modes worked for very long, they were all very buggy. But the idea remains: 768x1024 mode should be very attractive for Microsoft Word for Windows. Perhaps someone (maybe Microsoft) will do a driver. I know I'd rush to buy it. By the way, 800x600 is great. The extra resolution is really noticable but the CPU can still keep up without a graphics coprocessor. -- Phil Ngai, phil@amd.com {uunet, decwrl, ucbvax}!amdcad!phil A PC without DESQview is like Unix without ^Z.
