I need info regarding the HW/SW needed to start and run a BBS. It will be small and local, but I do not know the first thing about how to set up a BBS. Please make your answers simple and specific as to what I will need. I wish to include the following features: 1. General Postings - News to all. 2. E-Mail - Individual & Mailing Lists. 3. Network Connectivity - (Have to find a willing host.) 4. Upload & Download of files - Optional (but nice to have). Please E-mail all resonses ASAP (As Soon As Practical)! Thank you for your time! For software, a good choice is Galacticomm's The Major BBS, mostly because the 2 phone-line version is only $59. I had it up and running for a while, but gave it up because it didn't have hierarchical menus (that is, SIGs with sub-SIGs) - it all branches from root. However, if file uploading and downloading are peripheral (as opposed to the whole reason for setting the thing up) then it's pretty good. For the latter, I kind of decided TBBS was the best way to go, but it's $295. I went through a couple of the Shareware BBS software, and either I didn't like the look and feel, or they just plain didn't work on my machine. (Spitfire, I recall, didn't work, TAG worked very well locally, it just wouldn't answer the phone. I never was able to figure out why.) -- Craig Werner (future MD/PhD, 4.5 years down, 2.5 to go) werner@aecom.YU.EDU -- Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1935-14E Eastchester Rd., Bronx NY 10461, 212-931-2517) "Trust me.
