[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Public Domain Text Editor?

lars_s@tts.lth.se (Lars Sigebo) (02/15/90)

Does anybody know where (anonymous ftp, ...) I can find a
simple PD text editor which easily could be used by (almost) anybody?

Thanks in advance

Directory /pc/pd2 ted.zip by anonymous ftp from chyde.uwasa.fi. Or,
if a shareware editor is ok, you should take a look at qedit208.zip.

I still find that the best PD editor is PC-Write by QuickSoft. It can be
found on the SIMTEL20 archives (wsmr-simtel20.army.mil) in
pd1:<msdos.editors>. It comes with documentation, a spell checker, a good
help file, etc. Until I get emacs or SEDT running, I will only be using
PC-Write.

This is shareware, not PD. You are expected to
pay for it, and please do. Quicksoft has made
many significant revisions to the package, and
it is now as good as many more expensive wp
packages. I would hate to see quicksoft
stop their shareware marketing and up the
price to pay for advertising and marketing
due to people using the product and not paying.

I registered with PC-Write at least 4 years ago, back at version 2.5,
just as I do with all of my PD/ShareWare.

No one meant to criticize your integrity, and I'm impressed by your track record
on registering shareware, which is unusual; as a shareware author, I personally
thank you.

But the point being made is with your terms, which are damaging, though not
deliberately. The letters PD- Public Domain- should never be associated with
the word shareware! Please! We've worked pretty hard to make it clear that
shareware IS copyrighted and is NOT free, whereas lack of copyright is the
very meaning of public domain. So please don't associate the two terms. That's
the complaint, not your actual use of shareware, which is exceptional. Thanks
for listening to a sharewaresmith rant on. (-:

I've tried BlackBeard versions 7.39 and 7.46 with my 10 MHz (0 WS) AT
and none of them worked. After starting the program (with or without)
parameters machine just hangs. Anybody else had some kind of problems
with the program?
