Second request for help. Nobody responded to the first one...
Please help me! Recently I installed an EDSI drive into my
true blue PC/AT. The drive works normal unless I am doing
extensive disk I/O. The disk I/O ranges from compiling, using
MASM or MSC5.0, or editing a very large document using Word
Perfect 5.0.
The problem is that very randomly I am getting the dreaded
"Not Ready reading Drive C: Abort, Retry, Ignore" error, or
"Abort, Retry, Ignore error reading Drive C:"
Sometimes pressing retry will succeed, other times, I lose
my work! :-( Has anybody else experienced these problems
with the EDSI drives? I have no TSR's running, and I certainly
don't think Word Perfect is trying to do anything tricky with
the drive/controller.
I have the following:
IBM PC/AT 6 MHz True Blue
640K RAM - 120nSec
DOS 3.3 (Also True Blue)
Western Digital EDSI Controller WD1007/WAH
Control Data 90 Meg Drive Model: 94216-106 (ESDI)
1:1 Interleave
2:1 Also Tried!
config.sys:
break=on
buffers=20
files=20
device=c:\dos\ansi.sys
autoexec.bat:
prompt $p$g
path c:\;c:\dos
The distributor of controller/disk have not been very helpful
so I am turning my "pleas" to the net.

I've had the same problem with the same drive/controller running OS/2
on a Dell 310, so I suspect an intermittant hardware problem. It
usually happens during an MKS cp command or an xcopy command, both of
which beat hard on the disk subsystem.
