Hi, netland. I have a basic newly-networked user question to ask. I currently use rrn on a UNIX mainframe to read the newsgroups. Up until now I have been using a modem to dial up the mainframe and running rrn on the mainframe. Recently, my desktop '386 box has been connected to our campus network. Also connected to this network is an NNTP server (which is where the UNIX mainframe gets its news from). My questions are: Is there some software for the PC which will act as an NNTP client and access the news server directly, eliminating the need for me to log on to the UNIX host just to read news? I have run across a package called "pcrrn" on an anonymous ftp site, but I have had little luck compiling it under Turbo C 2.0 (and if comes with NO docs, not even a README file). Is pcrrn what I'm looking for? Is there another package which would allow me to read newsgroups directly from the campus server? Please email me if you can help (or direct me to another newsgroup if this question is not appropriate here). Many Thanks!
