If you can hear any head noise from your hard drive, just try disabling the
cache program and rebooting.

My Toshiba 110-Meg hard drive makes some impressive head noise as normal
procedure.  The difference between the (SMARTDRIVE) cache operational versus
disabled is truly tremendous.  The machine boots much quicker with the
cache operational, of course, but more importantly it does so more *quietly*
(and is much quieter thereafter).  That's at least as important to me as
the speed....
