Hi, I am a new 386/VGA user. My computer is not finding my hard drive recently. I would like some suggestion regarding where the problem could lie. Here's the syndrome: After power-up, counted the RAM, the computer performs a diagnostic test on all my drives. At this point, a message "c:drive error", "press F1 to resume" would appear, and after pressing F1, I'll have to boot DOS from drive A:. The DOS booted from A: would NOT RECOGNIZE the drive C: (D:, E:, etc). I tested the boot disk on another computer, and it's clean. Before the "C:drive error" message, all the power-up seems to be fine, the "HDD" LED also lights up briefly. A CMOS set-up routine from my motherboard didn't appear to be messed up. My hardware consists of: 1. Generic 20MHz 386 Board, AMI BIOS, not shadowing. 2. DTC RLL/2FD/2HD controller 3. Teac 5.25", SONY 3.5", NEC 65MB partitioned to C,D,E:. 4. Award 512K VGA card, PGS Max15 monitor (mono 1024*768) Also, my VGA monitor at times flickers horizontally, and the characters display near the right side appears to be clearer than the left side. Especially obvious when running Windows. Is these normal? Straight lines (the window's border) also have a small kink near the edge/top of the screen. The computer works fine for about a month until that afternoon.... The knowledgeable ones please e-mail me. Many thanks.
