[comp.sys.ibm.pc] EMM simulator for extended memory on a Zenith 386?

pentch@milton.acs.washington.edu (Dean Pentcheff) (03/14/90)

Does anyone know of software to fake LIM expanded memory using standard
extended memory? The machine in question is a 33 MHz Zenith '386 box.

Please mail responses: I will summarize and post.

Thanks.

Get yourself a copy of 386MAX Professional. Not only will it give you the
EMS emulation you are looking for, it can perform a multitude of other useful
memory tricks. It is made by Qualitas and can purchased mail order for
about $75. Well worth the money, IMHO.

Fred.

QEMM 5.0 from Quaterdeck does more or less the same thing as 386 to the Max.
I think it is a little cheaper and more "idiot proof" in the automated
installation.

More or less with the exception of handling Sun's PC-NFS sockdrv.sys,
which QEMM can not loadhi. QEMM is also incredibly quirky about what
high memory (A000-FFFF:F) can and can not be mapped. I still don't
understand when a configuration will and will not work and I probably
understand PC memory better than most people.

I don't have any experience with 386Max.
