[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Quattro Pro Need Hard Drive?

klopfens@bgsu-stu.UUCP (Bruce Klopfenstein) (03/01/90)

I've received nothing but praise for Quattro, but there are 2
points which I'd like more information on:

1) One person told me you need a hard drive to use Quattro Pro.
How difficult is it to use without a hard drive?

2) Another said academics can get an additional discount over the
$99.95. Anyone else know of this?

Thanks for all the prompt replies! I've used the "old" Quattro and
am amazed that so many people still use Lotus 1-2-3.

1 - According to the User's Guide (p. 5) you need a hard disk with
at least 3 Mb of free space and 4Mb is recommended. (The
program directory on my hard disk takes up about 3.1 Mb)

2 - If your university has a site license, Quattro is available for
less than $99.00. (One of my colleaques said $66.00). I'm not
sure whether you can buy personal copies for that price, though.

I just bought Q-Pro for our lab at $69.95 direct from Borland. I now
understand that our campus bookstore has it for the same price.

I "test drove" Quattro Pro, and there is no indication that it is even
possible to run it without a hard drive. When you go to install it, you
need to have 4 MB free on your hard drive!
