Looking at the Oscar presentations, I can't help but feel that as we move into an "information economy" where people make their living by producing information, we will be exposed to more and more "artificial" information. It's hard to define, but could be put loosely as information whose fame is far greater than its utility (usefulness in helping you make a decision). Now, I think knowing which picture won the Best Picture Oscar may well influence my choice of a film to see some night, but a good review would probably do better, as it can give me information as to what kind of film it is. And certainly a number of other awards shows, record charts, etc., produce highly "artificial" information. Just a comment to possibly put the awards in perspective (though it was quite a good show this year!).
