The model 30-286 hard drive is not a regular MFM or RLL drive. Instead, the controller for the drive is located on the drive itself. (Or at least part of it, I'm not really sure. I am sure that it is an IDE drive, I opened one today.) It is an IDE drive, as I stated before. I am uncertain whether it is the AT or XT type of IDE drive (yes, there is a difference.) Since there are only two drive bays on the 30/286, a hard card is probably the best way to go. An external enclosure will work, but you'll have to use a slot anyway.
