[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Need help with low level hard disk formatting.

mguyott@imposter.samsung.com (Marc Guyott) (03/21/90)

I am attempting to install a Seagate ST277-1R 65MB RLL disk drive in a
Leading Edge Model D2 (80286) PC. I am using a Western Digital 1006VSR1
16 bit/RLL/1:1 hard drive only controller.

The problem I am having is that I have used the software that came with the
drive to do the low level format and it will only allow my C: partition to
be 10MB. In addition, it requires that I install a special driver in my
config.sys file in order to be able to access the larger (65MB) drive.

My question is "Is this reasonable?" Is there a way for me to do a low level
format (such as entering "g=c800:5" from within debug) and then partition
the disk using the "fdisk" partitioning software that came with the PC?

I would appreciate any help or hints from anyone who has attempted to install
a new hard drive in a Leading Edge PC. Thanks, Marc
