[comp.sys.ibm.pc] SCSI Drives on a Novell network

ALG106@PSUVM.PSU.EDU (03/21/90)

The company I work for is installing a Novell Network. They purchased
a 33 MHz Northgate 386 with two 300 MB CDC SCSI disk drives. The problem
is the company that will install the network for us does not wish to use
the CDC drives, claiming that they aren't Novell certified, and they want
to sell us their drives (drives they sell, not produce).

My questions are:
    1) Has anyone used CDC drives or had any experience with them and if so
what is your opinion of them?
    2) If you have solid reasoning for your opinion, is there a specific
manufacture of drive that we should be using on our network?
    3) Do you have any other comments regarding Novell networks, Northgate
computers as file servers, or SCSI hard disks?

If you have any questions, please E-Mail me.

                                      Thank You,
                                          Andy

Wow, this is really neat. CDC drives are considered to be the best SCSI
drvies in the industry. For reliability and performance, they cannot be
beat. I have used many drives, from many manufacturers, and CDC has been
consistently the best overall. Who cares if Novell has certified them or
not. I know many people, including many of my customers, who use them
in Novell servers. Bottom line: You can't go wrong using CDC drives in any
environment.
