Good Afternoon, Here is my situation. I work in the Computing Center at SUNY-Albany. We have a Zenith Z-386/33 PC running DOS 3.3 with 2 Meg of RAM, 160 Meg Hard Drive, and an Ethernet Card. After this, we ran out of funds. We are currently connected to the Internet through our Campus backbone. What I would like to know, is the answers to the following questions, keeping in mind that all solutions must be shareware (minimal fees) or Public Domain/Freeware. 1) What software is out there to handle network mail, preferrably with an elm-type interface. 2) Is there anything out there to allow us to set up some form of a login shell on the PC that would be accessible from other Internet sites. i.e. Telnetting TO the PC. 3) What security measures can be taken to prevent sections of the hard drive from being accessible via FTP. 4) What is out there that will make the environment of the PC more available to Internet/Ethernet access. (PC-UNIX is not an option) Please send all replies to one of the addresses below, and I will post to the net if there's enough interest. Any information is desired. Thank you all in advance. -Steve Jacobson | - internet - - BITNET - | USnail: jake@leah.albany.edu | 171 N.
