I haven't been following this, so please tell me, what exactly is 4DOS and what is it capable of? How large is it on disk and in memory? Do you need a 386 to run it properly (or any other hardware requirements, for that matter)? ------- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | Arnold Gill | | | Queen's University at Kingston | If I hadn't wanted it heard, | | BITNET : gilla@qucdn | I wouldn't have said it. | | X-400 : Arnold.Gill@QueensU.CA | | | INTERNET : gilla@qucdn.queensu.ca | | -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

A very good replacement I'd say. With it you can do everything you do with command.com just as if there was no difference. You can also do lots more. 4dos brings you a bit closer to the machine witout making things hard toi understand. >How large is it on disk and in memory? Do you Well. I installed 4dos 3.0 yesterday, and with swapping to xms it requeres 768 BYTES!!! The rest is harmless up in the extended memory. VERY convinient. >need a 386 to run it properly (or any other hardware requirements, for that >matter)? Nope. It can be run on an old PC with an 8088 processor and almost no memory at all. I don't remember how much is actually needed, but it's not much. it DOES require more memory than command.com though. You needn't have any xms or ems. You needn't even have a hard disk. >------- > -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- >| Arnold Gill | | >| Queen's University at Kingston | If I hadn't wanted it heard, | >| BITNET : gilla@qucdn | I wouldn't have said it. | >| X-400 : Arnold.Gill@QueensU.CA | | >| INTERNET : gilla@qucdn.queensu.ca | | > -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- _ /Bjorn.
