Hello there : Can someone provide me some technical information about the Adaptec AHA-1640 Microchannel SCSI adapter ? The information I would like to obtain is : - What processor/controller, if any, does this board use ? - Does it have any on board RAM, if yes, how much ? - Does this board use the parity bits on the Microchannel bus ? - Does this board use the parity bit on the SCSI bus ? - How many SCSI channel does it provide ? - Am I correct that the transfer rate for this board is: MCA SCSI async SCSI sync 8MB/s 5MB/s 2MB/s - What is the average cost of the board. Any help will be appreciated. Ken

It is a 20Mhz 16Bit NS-HPC processor. >- Does it have any on board RAM, if yes, how much ? Only a small data buffer. >- Does this board use the parity bits on the Microchannel bus ? Yes. >- Does this board use the parity bit on the SCSI bus ? Yes (Optional, set or uset by the user) >- How many SCSI channel does it provide ? Uh, I assume you mean SCSI devices. Up to the max SCSI allows (56). The BIOS supports only 2 HD's as that is what the spec allows for the BIOS. >- Am I correct that the transfer rate for this board is: > MCA SCSI async SCSI sync > 8MB/s 5MB/s 2MB/s Yes. >- What is the average cost of the board. >Is the AHA1640 asynch transfer rate really faster than the synch transfer >rate? OOPPS. That's what I get for thinking what I read was what I really read. Async is 2MB/sec, sync is 5MB/sec.
