[comp.sys.ibm.pc] Help/Hints needed with PCTools#5.1 Desktop

GMoretti@massey.ac.nz (Giovanni Moretti) (03/29/90)

I've recently purchased PCTools V5.1 and am generally very happy with it
but have had a couple of odd things happen and I have a couple of queries.

I've installed the DESKTOP in resident mode and it runs fine, however the lack
of total list of keys recognised by the DESKTOP and its utilities is proving
to be a bit frustrating.

For example

WHAT DOES Ctrl-P do inside NOTEPAD?
===================================
Inside desktop using the NOTEPAD editor Ctrl-P causes the rest of the
screen to go into inverse video and start flashing. Inserting another
Ctrl-P turns the flashing off. This originally happened because I
normally use EMACS as my editor and Ctrl-P is the "Move to Previous Line"
command. It is especially confusing because you can't see these
characters even with "Show Control Characters" turned on, but they're
there.

As far as I can tell from the manual, there isn't any command bound onto
Ctrl-P and I don't have any macros active as far as I know. It is a
standard installation and I haven't turned macros on. What does the
flashing mean?

IS IT POSSIBLE TO TELL IF ANY MACROS ARE ACTIVE?
================================================

WHAT DOES Ctrl-K do inside NOTEPAD?
===================================
This seems to delete from the current cursor position back to the start
of the file. Is it described anywhere?

PRINTING from NOTEPAD/OUTLINER
==============================
Does anybody have (or can give some pointers to generating) a set of
macros that will enable me to do even primitive font changes (Bold /
Italics / bigger / smaller) on a Postscript laser printer?

Printing a list of records on a single page from DESKTOP/DATABASE - HOW?
=================================================================
I loaded up a database and then selected a subset of records from it.
I then designed a form to lay the information out in a single line.
When I printed this (PRINT SELECTED RECORDS), it printed a single line
at the top of each page, which is not exactly what I had in mind :-).
Is there any global way of defining whether to print each record on a
new page and also whether to eject a blank page at the end (it does and
I don't want it to).

GLOBAL LIST OF KEYSEQUENCES
===========================
Is there anywhere a list of ALL the function/alt/shift/ctrl sequences that
are recognised and acted upon by the DESKTOP and its utilities?

Some of these queries may be resolved in later releases. I've purchased
this version second-hand and I'm not sure about exactly what's different
in the later versions.

However, version 5.1 is the one I've got and any help with the above
queries would be appreciated.

Thanks
Giovanni
