"Missing" begins air time on HBO this month. An uneasingly realistic film about the father and the wife of the man who search through the wrath of martial law when he mysteriously dissapeared during the coup of 1973 in Chile. Based on a true story, Jack Lemmon's role as the Christian Scientist father becomes excessively mushy and overacted. Sissy Spacek as the wife is well played, however, and is the saving element in this award nominated thriller. The story tends to draw out and we are distracted by the details of the intertwining of historical characters from the main dilemma, what happened to the journalist/husband/son? It gets a 6.5 (ten is tops.

I recently heard that the woman portrayed by Sissy Specek (Beth Harmon?) gave a talk at Penn, at which she said that *she* thought the movie was very good, and very well done... I think that should be testimony enough. Paul Fox houxm!pgf
