A few days ago, we had the company we are leasing a PC compatable from send a technician to investigate hard disk troubles. He diagnosed the problem as a faulty controller. Because the replacement controller is a different brand, he said he had to reformat the harddisk. Also, he said that the replacement controller would NOT suppurt the Syquest cartridge disk drive we've been using for backups. So, he used PC Tools (Deluxe Ver 5.5 - I think) to back up the disk to 11 1.2 meg 5.25 inch floppies. After installing the new controller and reformatting the disk, he then tried to restore the saved files: the PC Tools backup utility read 3 of the disks then said that the restore was complete (and finished). Unfortunately, it wasn't really complete - there are 8 more disks to restore files from. The technicial has made repeat visits to try to restore the files again, but the results are the same each time. He (and I) called the leasing company office to order another controller that will support the Syquest drive - but it will be 2 weeks before it arrives. In the meantime, we NEED the files on the 8 remaining diskettes to be restored - can anybody help us? * NOTE: The leasing company's technician used PC Tools from HIS diskette - we do NOT have PC Tools. I do not know if HIS use of PC Tools is legal or not - if need be, we will cooperate with the publisher of PC Tools to handle any illegalities on the part of the leasing company or it's staff. Our concern is getting our data restored as quickly as possible - we really can't wait for the (next) new controller. Thanks in advance. - Ron
