[net.music] Coupla Things

I have a couple of unrelated questions to ask. A friend came over for the
weekend and brought along a tape with selections from an album that facinated
me. The album is a 3 record set called "Consequence" by Kevin Dodley and Lol
Creme. Has anyone out there heard it and know if it's available anywhere? The
tape he had was of a very poor quality and not worth dubbing. I'de like to get
my mits on this one

A friend gave me a tape a few years back which had Tim Curry's "Paradise
Garage" on it. Does anyone know what LP it was on and if it's still available.
I haven't had much luck rummaging in used record stores

Lastly, do any of you Boston area folks remember "Stormin Norman and Susie?"
They played the Boston/Cambridge club scene about 7-8 years ago and had two LP's
out. The ex-wife took the albums when she left. SN & S were a really good act.
She had a voice somewhat similar to Janis Joplin's, Norman played piano. Really
good blues! Are they still around? Are their records available anywhere?

Oh well, just rummaging through my vast collection of auditory software over
the weekend and came up with a coupla hard to find requests.....don't know if
any of you can help.

                                     Thanks, Ray

It's still available, I believe. The name of the album is FEARLESS
and it also features an unfortunately popular hit "I Do The Rock".
"Paradise Garage" is an excellent tune. How can it be bad if it mocks
disco? (Remember disco? Gold chains? Polyester leisure suits? Zodiac
signs? Ah, those wreched, tacky '70s ... they were a killer!)

It still should be available, but maybe only in cutout bins and used
record stores. I don't imagine it sold very much.

Your friend did right in only taping selections from it, as I found it
to be very uneven. In fact I only taped one song from it, "The Flood",
which is the song of the dripping faucet and subsequent flood. The album
was the first (if I'm not mistaken) to use the gizmo which has recently
got a lot of discussion here. There is some other good stuff, but on the
whole, it's mediocre. Cut it down to a single LP and it's worth it.

Gee, Kate Bush can say it all with only ONE disc per album, and she
invented the headset mike! Right Doug?

I was looking for it in a local record store and found an awesome Kate Bush
t-shirt instead. It's really great. and innovative.

Well, this weekend I had the chance to listen to the legendary Kate
Bush. I was browsing in a few record stores and one had an entire section
devoted to Katie. The clerk queued up "Hounds of Love" for me and in all
honesty I have to say that I didn't care for her style at all. Oh well,
there's no accounting for people's tastes, mine included! I just had to
look into what all the broo ha ha was all about. Well the weekend was spent
on a music hunting safari which netted me some truly rare jems and deflated
my checking account by $100. I'de like to share with the group what is in
my opinion some of the *best record stores in the Boston area for those
who may visit our beautiful pothole covered city.

Nuggets
-------
Just on the outskirts of Kenmore Square where Commonwealth Ave merges is
a wonderful little basement used record store called Nuggets. They have
a pretty good selection of all genres, but the best selections are in
Jazz, Rock and folk. They buy used records also. Most used disks I've
bought there have been in excellent shape, with hardly a pop or click
on any I've purchased

Planet Records
--------------
In the heart of Kenmore Square this store has some of the best finds if you're
into 60's - early 70's serious rock. They also have an interesting Jazz and
Classical section. The prices are very reasonable. I picked up pristine,
hermeticly sealed copies of Jorma Kakounan's "Quah", the Airplane's "Crown
of Creation" and Tim Curry's "Fearless" for $2.99 each. I was impressed with
the selection of old rock lp's and the condition they were in. Worth a visit!

Newbury Comics
--------------
On Newbury Street, a coupla blocks down from MAss Ave. This place specializes
in New Wave/Serious Rock and also sells Tee shirts, posters, comics and various
punker trappings. A fun place to browse in. Tends to be more pricey than the
others since it sells "New" records.

Sound Factory
-------------
In East Boston just outside of Maverick Square on 292 Merridean street this
place has the best selection of 12" dance singles and imports I've seen in
Massachusetts. They also carry current top 40 stuff but if you're looking
for that hard to find dance disk, more than likely Jerry (the owner) can get
you a copy. Jerry also supplies local dj's with dance music.

The Coop
--------
Harvard Square in Cambridge. I swear that when all good record collectors
die they go here. An enormous selection of every musical genre available.
The place is usually packed on weekends, bring money!

Loony Tunes
-----------
Boylston Street just past Mass Ave, heading for the Fenway. Another marvelous
used/new record store. They give good trade ins on used records and have a
reasonable selection of most music styles. As the sign in the window says
"The World Is Coming to an End, Buy Records Now!" Worth a visit

Oh well just a couple of my record shopping stomping grounds...check'em out
