I have an American (Compaq) laptop that formats 3.5" floppies to 720K/1.44M under DOS 3.1 (I think -- I'm sure at least that it's *not* Compaq's slightly incompatible version 3.31). The Japanese PC98's and compatibles at work format 3.5" floppies to 1.25M(?), I've been told. But the drive hardware is almost certainly the same. Does anyone know about this? In particular: o is there a program, free or otherwise, to transfer files between American and Japanese PC's using 3.5" floppies? o if not, is there a compelling (hardware) reason why it can't be done?
