I'm managing a PC LAN using Novell's NetWare 286, version 2.15. My group uses a graphics program which requires at least 540K conventional memory. After loading the necessary network and device drivers (i.e, IPX, NET3, etc.), the available conventional memory is no longer big enough to call up the graphics program. (I make sure there is no memory-resident programs or unecessary device drivers running at that time.) We also want to use a bibliography database program for manuscript and documentation purpose. This program is best used by running it as a memory resident program so that the user can use it together with a word processing program, which is Microsoft WORD 5.0 in our case. However, the problem of insufficient memory prevents us to use the bibliography program by this method. If running this bibliography program as memory resident, it will take away about 200k, and what's left (about 250K) does not allow us to call up WORD anymore. Currently we are using DOS 3.3. The workstations in the network consists of 8088-based and 80286-based machine. Can someone help me to solve the problem of insufficient memory? First of all, is there any product available to load the device drivers onto the upper memory? (As far as I know, products capable of such function is only for 386-based machine.) In addition, I have an AST Rampage Plus 286 memory expansion board (1 MB) available for one of the 286 machines. How can I utilize this borad as the best solution? (This board can be specified as either expanded, extended, or a combination of both types of memory.) Any pointer is appreciated.
