Agreed that the original INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS can't be bettered because of its campiness, it also succeeded much more fully than the remake in serving as an allegory for the mood of the times, which I feel was what the original was all about. It did a great job of portraying the gray conformity and paranoia of the McCarthy era. The remake had the 1970's to work with, and didn't particularly stand out among the many films mirroring the indifference and alienation of the me-generation 70's.
