[comp.sys.ibm.pc] vga monitors

zzw0039@dcrlg1.UUCP (Al Ethridge) (11/09/88)

There has been a lot of talk regarding VGA monitors and cards. The resolution
on them is great and the colors seem limitless. But what good is it if the
programs that use VGA don't look any different than displayed on an EGA. It
seems a little high to buy a VGA when the only thing you can get the
enhancements is the demo. That would get awful tiresome

I am thinking about buying a vga monitor. What are some good super
vga monitors? Sorry if this has been hashed over recently, but I
hope someone can forward me the article. I just got an ATI wonder
with 512K and I'm looking for a monitor. I'm was looking in the
computer shopper and saw a monitor call "Aamazing" and its just a
little above $400. I see that it handles 1024 X 768 and 600 X 800
in 256 colors with a .28 dot pitch. How is this monitor? Is anyone
using one right now? Any suggestions on any other monitors would be
greatly appreciated? Thanks.

Check out the last issue of PC Magazine and the latest issue of PC World.
They both have reviews/tests of Super VGA monitors.

Personally, I've used a NEC 3D monitor and it's just super.

OK, to be a little more informative...

  The April 10, 1990 PC Magazine has a review/test of 1024x768 noninterlaced
monitors.
  Their editor's choices:

13" Multiscan HG by SONY $1095 list price
               13" NEC Multisync 4D $1699
               19" Nanao 9400 $3799

The May 15, 1990 PC Magazine has a review/test of Super VGA monitors.
(800x600) but some go to 1024x768.
  Their editors' choices:

               14" MAG Computronic PMV14VC Plus $635
               13.25" Mitsubishi FA3415ATK $1015
               13" NEC Multisync 3D $1049

If you only want VGA, they recommend the Zenith ZCM-1492 which they say
has the best picture.

The May 1990 PC World tries to find the "best value" among multiscan
monitors "for every budget"
  Theeir best buys:

               Leading Technology 1432M $495
               NEC Multisync 3D $1049
               Seiko CM-1440 $899

All three 14" monitors support 1024x768 resolution.

The May 1990 PC World tries to find the "best value" among multiscan

They missed the Loop VGA monitor. It costs $359, supports 800x600, 1024x768,
has a .28mm dot pitch, and it's pretty good. It's solely distributed by
Compeq USA. They have an ad in the May 29, 1990 PC Magazine, page 285.
