[comp.sys.ibm.pc] 2400 baud modem

nelson_p@apollo.HP.COM (Peter Nelson) (05/26/90)

I'm in the market for a modem to replace my 1200
baud Everex modem. I'm entirely satisfied with
the modem itself but I want to go a little faster.
I thought I'd like something which supports MNP
level 5 at 2400 baud. And I'd like to buy it from
a reasonably well-established company without spending
an arm and a leg. "Joe's Modems and Lawnmower Repair"
is too rinky dink, no matter how low their price is,
Hayes is too expensive. Everex is a good compromise
but I would happily consider others if people have
    horror stories about Everex.

    Thanks in advance.

                                         ---Peter

I don't know about the MNP stuff (maybe somebody could fill me in) but a good
inexpensive modem is a SUPRA. I have seen their 2400 baud modems for $125 at
a local computer store. It may even sell for less out of a mail order house.
They are made in Albany, OR. Haven't heard one bad thing about them and I use
one all of the time.
