[comp.sys.ibm.pc] UPS's

hal@glacier.UUCP (Harold C. Nevis) (05/30/90)

I recently purchased an Emerson UPS (Accuposer Modem 40) rated as 800va.
I assumed that the unit would be shielded. The manual indicated that
diskettes and monitors whould not be brought to within 6" of the unit.
However I found that if the unit was closer then 3-4' to the phone lines
and modems there would be considerable interference. This would
particularly be the case with a difficult overseas connection and with
a connection between two systems in the same room (presumably as the
modems were being hit twice).

Does anyone have experience with UPS units related to this sort of
interference? Are some shielded better then others?

Otherwise the unit works well, keeping 2 systems, printer, and 4
modems going for 1 minutes which would cover 95% or more of outages.
This particular unit could easily handle a third system.
