[comp.sys.ibm.pc] PCTools v6.0 - PCShell problem

stu@voodoo.UUCP (Stuart Liddle) (05/31/90)

I have discovered what I think is a serious problem with PCTools version 6.0.
In their upgrade from version 5.5, Central Point has changed a fundamental
feature of the PCShell. When you set up a program to run from the shell and
set it up to "Run with Selected Files" it will use the explicitly
selected file (the ones you click the mouse on) which is the way it worked in
v 5.5. The problem is that if you do not explicitly select a file, the program
you want to run is passed the filename of the HIGHLIGHTED file!!!

Now at first I thought this was a bug, but then I looked and it was in the
documentation on page 95 of the "Data Recovery/DOS Shell" book! What if I
want to run WORD to create a new document? Do I have to have it installed
twice in the shell (one to run with selected files and another to NOT run
with selected files)?

I would like to know if anyone out there views this as a serious design flaw
in an otherwise good product or am I the only one that thinks this is a problem?
