This is my first posting so please, bear with me. I recently purchased a 25 MHz 386 system with an AMI Bios and a Chips and Technology chip set. While the system came with one Meg of memory, only 640K is available according to the dealer. This is because the rest is used as shadow RAM for my BIOS. Now, while I understand how this works (vaguely!), I still have questions about it. They are, in random order: 1) Can one disable this feature safely, to have access to the extra memory? Is this recommended? 2) My VGA card also has shadowing capability. Is this compatible, or will conflicts arise? 3) How will it affect 386 software, such as QRAM, or Windows, or even OS/2? Please mail me your replies. I will post an update later. (If wanted.) Thanks greatly. PS: One other thing that bugs me. When I bought the computer, it was advertised as be a zero wait state system. The AMI BIOS reports this as true. However, the system uses 70 ns RAM, unchached, with no memory banking or interleaving. HOW CAN THIS BE TRUE?? Is someone lying, or is my math wrong (1sec/25 MHz = 40 ns)? Again, thank you for your support. -------------------------------------------------------| Garland Best KIRK: Hi, Bones.
